In September 2008, Diversity Focus approached Click Marketing Solutions with the opportunity to market their annual Student Diversity Leadership Conference. In short notice, the Click team was able to create a multitude of collateral pieces, providing marketing consulting advice and utilize social media to reach their target audience of Cedar Rapids/Iowa City, Iowa high school juniors and seniors plus faculty to make this the most attended event to date. In March 2007, Click Marketing Solutions created and launched the inaugural Gold’s Gym Mr. Puniverse contest. This Valley wide competition was executed through an integrated marketing campaign targeting 18+ year old males in the greater Phoenix area with underdeveloped physiques and weighing a maximum 145 pounds.
The contest, a combination beauty pageant/bodybuilding event, featured six good natured finalists competing for various prizes and the coveted title of Mr. Puniverse. A panel of Gold’s Gym fitness experts presided over the competition, which was well received by the audience and garnered rave reviews from everyone involved. Concluding the event, a Mr. Puniverse was crowned and officially began his reign.
Over the course of 2007, Mr. Puniverse will act as a Gold’s Gym ambassador at various events throughout the state. Additionally, the winner’s progress in achieving weight and muscle gain will be continually documented through public relations and new media campaigns.
This annual competition promotes the Gold’s Gym brand by providing an opportunity to educate the community about the value of muscles to good health, promote the Gold’s Gym story in an engaging way and bring humor to a brand personality known for its serious bodybuilding heritage.
The Mr. Puniverse prize package consisted of these items:
• Lifetime membership to the Phoenix area
• One year free membership to Gold’s Gym for a friend
• Personal trainer for a maximum of 3x per week
• Gold’s Gym apparel allowance (approximately $150 – T-shirts, pants, caps)
• Other misc. prizes as developed
• Inclusion in pr activities including representing Gold’s Gym at approved events.
The runner-up received a 6 month membership to Gold’s Gym.
